Loreena McKennitt – Breton Carol

En la primavera de 2008, Loreena McKennitt grabó ocho temas, siguiendo la línea de su álbum de 1995 “A Winter Garden: Five Songs for the Season”. A su nuevo trabajo lo llamó “A Midwinter Night’s Dream”, y recoge adaptaciones muy buenas de temas tradicionales.

Otro gran trabajo de la versátil Loreena McKennitt, con un registro lírico que enjaca a la perfección con la melodía arabesca. En el año 2006, Loreena volvía a los estudios tras nueve años retirada del mundo musical, una etapa marcada por la muerte en 1999 de su novio, un hermano y un amigo en un accidente náutico en el lago Hurón, en Canadá. Pero sus fans supieron agradecer el regalo que supuso “An ancient muse”, uno de sus mejores trabajos, donde su voz deja entrever cierta melancolía.

Lorenna McKennitt – In the bleak midwinter

Lorenna McKennitt es una cantante, compositora y arpista con influencias célticas. Su amor por la música tradicional se acrecentó cuando estudiaba veterinaria en Winnipeg (Canadá), donde frecuentaba los clubs de folk. En 1981 creó su propio sello discográfico: Quinlan Road, y la fama le llegaría en 1989, con su álbum “Parallel Dreams”, que lograría vender 40.000 copias gracias a la promoción de varias distribuidoras independientes. “In the bleak midwinter es un tema instrumental de Gustav Holst (1874-1934), adaptado y con arreglos de Lorenna McKennitt.
